Great Lakes Barista Jam

October 6, 2008

This weekend I was able to try a plethora of fantastic coffees. The Jam was run and setup by BGA members in the Great Lakes area. Mike Phillips from Intelligentsia, Scott and Colin from Alterra, and Andy from the Italian Coffee Bar were some of the guys I hung out with this weekend. I ran the brew bar; making syphon, eva solo, and chemex coffees. My favorite coffee of the weekend was one from Ritual Roasters on the West Coast. Their Lerida Estate Boquete Panama is one truly unique coffee. It is a dry processed coffee that uses the sun as its heat source. I had only tasted very terrible coffees that have used this process before. But, in the syphon pot, this Panama bursts with sweet raspberry, lavender-like nose, and a chewy plum finish. Very wonderful coffee. Thanks everyone.
